Causes and Effects

1.) Barbed wire: Barbed wire was the main invention that "tamed the Wild West." it allowed frontier farmers to claim and protect their land from other farmers, predators, or thieves. with the invention of barbed wire, the frontier grew into organized farms and the new frontier became large organized farms.

2.) Dynamite: Dynamite, invented by Alfred Nobel, became the new replacement for black powder and nitroglycerin. It made large construction, or destruction jobs safer and faster. Dynamite was revolutionary because it allowed a safe yet extremely powerful way to explode things.

3.) Typewriter: The typewriter was a revolutionary product that greatly increase the speed of writing. inventor Christopher Sholes made the earliest version of the typewriter, that was eventually perfected. before the type writer was invented, people were limited to about 30 words per minute when writing by pen. with a typewriter, they could type up to 130 words per minute. this greatly increase the speed of printing documents and papers.

4.) Air Brake: the air brake was invented by George Westinghouse in 1869. the air brake was extremely revolutionary because before it's invention trains had to be very short and go very slow due to their limited braking power. with the invention of the air brake, trains could be exponentially larger and go much faster. this obviously helped trains to move more product at a much faster rate.

5.) Telephone: one of the most well known inventions of late 1800's was the telephone. Alexander Graham Bell invented it in 1876. the telephone allowed people to talk to other people on real time from a distance. The telephone changed the way people did business. it allowed business to do marketing and selling much faster than anyone else could ever before. the telephone also allowed normal people to communicate with each other.

6.) Trolley car: the trolley car was big cities' first real answer to the mass transit problem. cities with trolley cars where able to expand outward and not just upward. with the trolley car, people could live further away from their jobs. this made suburbs possible.

7.) Automobile: the automobile was invented in 1885 by Karl Benz. although it wouldn't become able to be mass manufactured for a few years. this was the first step in creating the automobile, which would eventually become the world's most popular way of transportation. once perfected, the automobile became one of the most revolutionary inventions ever. it gave anyone the freedom to go almost any where.

8.) Kodak Camera: The Kodak Camera was America's first opportunity for the public to take pictures. it allowed nearly anyone to own a camera and develop film. with this opportunity, came photojournalism. with photojournalism, nearly every article, paper, or document could have a picture with it.

9.) Radio: the Radio was one of the most important inventions of its time. the radio allowed people not only to be entrained and informed. but it could also be used to warn people about important public news. the radio would evolve into one of the ways of news, entertainment, and warnings in a very short time.

10.) x-ray: the X-ray, invented by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, was perhaps most important medical invention of that era. it allowed doctors to see inside people with out opening them up. this also gave doctors a much larger knowledge of the structure of a human.

11.) Air Conditioning: Air Conditioning is a prime example of how the U.S. Evolved at the turn of the century. air conditioning allowed people to be inside and stay cool on a hot day. it was one of many invention of that time that's main purpose was comfort.

12.)Airplane: the airplane is maybe the most symbolic invention of the entire century. it allowed us to fly. although it wasn't used for transportation immediately. it was quickly adapted for sending mail. it would eventually be a major way for us to travel long distances at a fast speed.

13.) Stainless Steel: the invention of stainless steel gave America  a wonderful new way to have metal things, but not have them rust. Stainless Steel's resistance to rusting and corrosion made it ideal for making outdoor metal structures such as statues, sculptures, and outsides of buildings.

14.) Liquid Rocket Fuel: liquid rocket fuel was our first step to sending things, and people to space. although when it was invented it wasn't used a lot, after a few years it was used to send the first people to the moon. liquid rocket fuel is still used today as the propellant for sending things to space.
